"I can never make out," said the Moon to the Sea

"Do I drown in you or do you swallow me?"

 

Quit trying to get me to sing to your tune

Might as well jump high and try to basket the Moon.

 

I looked at the Moon so far above

It spoke of dreams and wistful love

 

Wonder what she’s seeking, enquiring of stars in desperation

Lost Moon, in tears, across the sky, from a loved one separation?

 

“I’ve seen it all,” said the Moon, “The good, the bad and the sages;

molten lava turn to beautiful Earth; I’ve been around for ages”

 

Without the Sun’s generosity, there would be no gentle Moonlight

He listens to his heart as the horizon calls, and does what he feels is right

 

Sometimes I am red, and sometimes I am blue

Whatever else I am, I'm still a smaller version of you

 

When you wander in the darkness

and find you've lost your way

Night doesn't stay too dark too long

Moonlight as bright as day

 

And then, one day, I recall, a July afternoon

Rocket landed from Earth, and man left footprints on the Moon

 

“Not knowing what I wanted, about the Universe did I roam,

said the Moon, “but once I’d found my Earth, I knew I’d found my home.”

 

Waxing and waning, all part of growing pains

Made no sense the darkness

Moon washed away by rains

 

Perhaps the Sun had not thought this through

and gone down too soon

Dark clouds rush through the sky, crushing out the Moon

 

“One wish to be granted was all I asked, and I think I was clever,”

Said Moon to Earth, “Cause it set life’s course and covered all, just follow you forever.”

 

Sometimes full, sometimes gone, sometimes not all there

Moon, despite my discomfort, your many moods I bear

 

....And in the stillness far and wide

There was just you 

And I.

 

through all lost and won, through the wild ride

through all said and done, you were by my side

 

It was love....dreamy....misty....love

 

How would you know

how it is I feel -

You so far

And ethereal

 

On a moonlit night so bright

with you by my side

in compatible silence

everything felt just right

 

Your wisdom shines upon me and drive away my fears

shimmering, melting Moonlight, blurred by my tears

 

Deep lake, blue mountains, snow-laden and white

reflected in still waters, bright stars, moonlight

 

How my heart leaps in irrepressible delight

I knew my Moon you would make it

and light up my night.

 

Twas only when I saw you that I feigned to swoon

So you’d catch me right up in your arms – 

a blushing bright red Moon

 

Dear Moon, to me, you are my all - 

day and night

winter, spring, summer and fall

 

Lifted my eyes to see you rise and thought of other times;

when you said something, and I read something,

said between the lines.

 

Far away you are, and yet you are so close

Life came a full circle the day the full moon rose

 

I dreamt I was the luckiest one, all happiness and no rue.

The Moon waved her magic wand,

“May all your dreams come true!”

 

I am there because of you my Earth

I am Moon because you gave birth

 

Her many engaging ways, her smile makes me swoon

She is Sun, Stars and Galaxy; she is the Moon

 

Across the sky, past the horizon

I must go, declared the Moon,

and bring back the Sun

 

Our dreams this hour thus granted

We waltz to wind’s soft tune

Vales and hills enchanted

Trees, breeze—and Moon!
